You can see the results that users get when typing a particular query. This way, you can evaluate the competitiveness of the apps and choose successful ones for retrieving keywords from those apps for your semantic core.

Application: Getting real-time data about apps queried by specific keywords in the selected country.

Goal: Deep analysis of keywords and competitors. Collection of effective keywords.

Time: Up to 5 minutes.

1. Type a keyword in the search bar

Select the device: iPhone or iPad. And type a keyword in the search bar.

You get top apps’ ranking data for the keyword in your chosen country. You can compare the most important app’s KPIs amongst top App Store apps selected by the keyword.

2. Analyze the keyword metrics

Now you can study in detail metrics for each app from the list and the overall metrics of all of them. The top tabs show the main metrics for the keyword:

  • Total Apps. The total number of apps displayed in the store for a given keyword.

  • Popularity shows the estimated rate for the keyword, depending on how often people use this keyword to search for the app.

  • Daily Impressions. This metric shows how many views your keyword receives, that is, how many times people use it during the day in a particular county.

  • Your App Ranking. You can see the position of your app in the search results that users get when they type the keyword you. We consider in more detail the features of the App Store ranking factors in this article.

  • Competitors. Here you can see the number of your competitors for a particular keyword from the top 10 in the App Store.

Autosuggests. Live Search shows other keywords that are related to the query you entered. App stores suggest them when you enter the phrase into the search bar. They can be used to search for your product. Click on the suggested keyword you are interested in to get detailed results.

If you want to get more autosuggested keywords, click “More Suggests”. You’ll enter the Autosuggest tool.

3. Analyze competitors’ apps metrics

Now you can move on to detailed data about competitors’ products. By default, the first ten products are shown in the results list. However, you can click the “Load More” button below to open more applications for analysis. The metrics shown are:

  • Category. Typically, highly specialized searches will show you products from one category, while more general keywords can appear in various categories.

  • Rating. The average rate that users give to an app in the App Store.

  • Voted. The total number of users who have rated a product.

Depending on your current tasks, you can mark any product as Competitor or Non-Competitor. It will make your analysis more intelligent: chosen competitors will be used for analysis in other tools.

If necessary, any of the listed applications can be added to the list of your apps (the “+” icon). You can add more than one app with the Starter, Pro, or Expert news.

4. Discover apps’ category distribution and get insights

Top 10 Category Distribution. By scrolling down, you get categories to which the top 10 apps belong. The result is based on the top apps from the list above. Percentages show how many top 10 apps are in a particular category.

Top 10 Apps Insights. It shows the average values of KPIs based on the top 10 apps. Apps analyzed here are those queried by the chosen keyword (you see them in the list above).

  • Number of competitors shows how many apps are direct competitors for your app from all the apps queried by the keyword. Notice that number includes the competitors you chose.

  • Average rating shows the average value rate in the App Store for the top ten products.

  • Average number of votes shows the average number of users who have rated the Top 10 apps.

  • Average age of apps (Top 10) shows how long apps are in the store on average.

  • Percentage of free apps shows the average number of free items queried by the keyword.

  • Average price of paid apps shows the average price of apps in dollars.

Data is based on users’ requests in real-time. Therefore, Live Search results change over time, so you can get up-to-date analytics whenever you use the tool.

The next ASO step is getting suggested keywords for your app. You can boost an app higher in the search query by including keywords that can be used to find your app. Go to Keywords Autosuggest – a tool for searching suggested keywords.
